A movement, not a favour.

Black Albinism is youth-led and pro-disability. We exist so that persons with albinism are valued, empowered and fully included in every part of life.

Mission and vision

Empowerment, not rescue.

Our mission

Black Albinism is committed to promoting the rights and well-being of persons with albinism through socio-economic empowerment, training, mentorship, and advocacy for full inclusion.

Our vision

To build a society where persons with albinism are valued, empowered, and fully integrated into all aspects of life.

Youth-led is not decoration. The people designing these programmes are the people who need them. It is why the chama is member-owned, why the football club fields its own teams, and why our storytelling is done by persons with albinism rather than about them.

Thematic areas

Four areas. One outcome.

01Learners together in a classroom.

Social inclusion

Education, sport and community life that expect persons with albinism to be present.

How we work

What you can hold us to

01

Person-first language, always

Persons with albinism. Never “albino” as a noun. Albinism is a genetic condition affecting melanin, not a racial category, and language is where most of the damage starts.

02

Consent before publication

No photograph, quote or identifying detail goes out without recorded consent, and it can be withdrawn at any time. For anyone under 18 that means a parent or guardian’s consent plus the young person’s own agreement.

03

Nothing about us without us

Programmes are designed and run by persons with albinism. Where we lack the expertise in the room, we bring it in rather than guess.

04

Built to be copied

Our templates, guides and datasets are open. If another group can run this better in their own country, that is a win, not a loss.

Ask us a question

Talk to us directly.

We are based in Nairobi and the work starts where we stand, but albinism does not stop at a border and neither does the misunderstanding around it. If you want to work with us, copy something we have built, or just ask what we actually do, there is a person at the other end of all three of these.

Everything we build is meant to be copied. The chama constitution, the teacher pack, the image library, the sun-safety guidance. Take them and use them where you are.
